Frequently asked questions
What are frijoles?
Frijoles are beans commonly used in Latin American cuisine, available in varieties like black, pinto, and red beans.
How do I cook dried frijoles?
Rinse and soak them, then simmer in water or broth until tender, usually for 1–2 hours.
How do I store cooked frijoles?
Store cooked frijoles in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze them for up to 3 months.
Should I drain and rinse canned frijoles?
Rinsing canned frijoles removes excess sodium and improves flavor, but you can use the liquid for added thickness in some recipes.
How long do dried frijoles last?
Stored in a cool, dry place, dried frijoles last up to a year or longer, although older beans take longer to cook.
What dishes can I make with frijoles?
Frijoles can be used in soups, stews, salads, burritos, tacos, refried beans, or as a side dish.
How do I quick-soak frijoles?
Boil beans for 2 minutes, remove from heat, cover, and let soak for 1 hour before draining and cooking.
Where can I buy frijoles around me?
You can buy it now on the MasGusto! Latino Market App and get it delivered to your home as fast as tomorrow.
Do I need to soak frijoles before cooking?
Soaking frijoles overnight helps reduce cooking time and improves texture, but quick-soak methods or cooking unsoaked beans are also possible.
Can I cook frijoles without soaking?
Yes, but unsoaked frijoles will take longer to cook and may have a firmer texture.
Are canned frijoles already cooked?
Yes, canned frijoles are fully cooked and can be used straight from the can after rinsing.
How can I add flavor to frijoles?
Add aromatics like onion, garlic, cumin, bay leaf, or smoked meats while cooking for deeper flavor.
Can I freeze cooked frijoles?
Yes, place cooled, cooked frijoles in an airtight container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
Why are my frijoles still hard after hours of cooking?
Old beans or the presence of acidic ingredients like tomatoes can prevent frijoles from softening. Ensure beans are fresh, and add acidic ingredients after beans are tender.
Where can I buy frijoles?
You can buy it at MasGusto! Latino Market, www.masgusto.com.
Can I cook frijoles in a pressure cooker?

- Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked restaurant caliber pinto beans. I've always liked eating this kind of pinto bean stew at our favorite Mexican restaurant which we used to eat at pretty often, then we couldn't eat there during COVID pandemic. We later found out it had relocated to a farther location. I tried and tried but couldn't make this at home, and always reluctant to buy canned beans due to use of preservatives and artificial ingredients. So excited to discover La Costena Whole Pinto Beans made with all natural ingredients and tastes awesome. My void and craving for this particular authentic Mexican pinto beans stew has been fulfilled.
- Very soft, well-balanced seasoning, Latin American flavor, good for English breakfast.
- Nice packet
- This is the second time I've bought them! They arrive quickly and are a great price!
- Excellent.
